In place of the forest on the left of the hole there is now a large bunker complex and the entire area has been raised to solve the chronic drainage issues that existed. Once the vegetation in this area matures, it will provide a sturdy defence to the corner while still allowing a view to the green from the left side of the hole.
The hole will play much shorter for those who take on the trouble down the left side. Those who play out to the wide side of the hole on the right will have a significantly longer second shot and will have to deal with the bunkers guarding the right front of the green.
The primary defence for the green is its elevated condition, sharp, fall off to the left, bunkers on the front right as well as the rear of the green, and all of the bunkers are of a sufficient depth and quality to challenge the finest golfers on this stage.
