Royal Sydney is proud to share that Director of Grounds Adam Marchant has been named winner of the ASTMA Claude Crockford Sustainability & Environmental Award at the 2026 National Turf Industry Awards, held at Crown Palladium in Melbourne on Monday 22nd June.
One of the most prestigious accolades in Australian turf management, the award has recognised excellence in environmental stewardship, sustainable land management and community engagement since 1996. It is named in honour of legendary Royal Melbourne Golf Club superintendent Claude Crockford, whose near 40-year tenure championed the environment and set a benchmark for the industry.
The award recognises the sustainability outcomes of Royal Sydney’s Championship Course redevelopment; a transition from a traditional, heavily irrigated parkland style to a native landscape aligned with the local ecology. The redeveloped course integrates world-class playing surfaces with extensive native vegetation zones, delivering significant reductions in water, fertiliser and chemical use alongside new wildlife habitats, corridors and the preservation of rare and endangered flora.
Director of Grounds Adam Marchant said the achievement reflected a collective effort.
“This is an award for Royal Sydney as a club, but also for my team who helped produce this project. We couldn’t have done it without the support of the club, my team, and the many consultants and contractors who were part of the project. This is just the beginning for Royal Sydney in this space and I’m excited for what lies ahead.”
A fantastic achievement for Adam, the Sporting Areas Team, and the whole Club.
