On Friday 13th February, Royal Sydney was honoured to welcome Australian golfing icon, Karrie Webb AO, to formally sign the R&A Women in Golf Charter.
Members gathered together to witness the signing of the R&A Women in Golf Charter – including President Lucy Regan, Women’s Captain Nicki Barrett-Lennard and Men’s Captain Adam Cornell – which was then followed by a special Q&A and conversation with Karrie. Royal Sydney President Lucy Regan spoke on the significance of this milestone.
“We are committed to supporting and encouraging women and girls participating and working in golf and actively promoting a balanced golfing community,” she said.
“We are glad to join the many other clubs in Australia and internationally who have shown leadership through this public commitment to enriching the future of golf.”
Royal Sydney Women’s Captain Nicki Barrett-Lennard noted the positive impacts this R&A Women & Golf Charter has for both current and future female golfers, as well as women working in golf at the Club.
“Women and girls make up more than 40% of both our membership and our staff,” she said.
“This is a commitment to them – and future generations of golfing women – ensuring they have opportunities for development in both a professional and sporting capacity at Royal Sydney, as well as beyond.”
By signing the charter, as well as through participation in other programs such the Australian Golf Foundation’s Junior Girls Golf Scholarship Program, Royal Sydney aims to continue creating playing and career opportunities for women and girls in golf.
