Royal Sydney Celebrates World Wetlands Day

Monday 2nd February is the UN World Wetlands Day. Wetlands have a vital impact on their surrounding ecosystems, helping manage run-off during heavy rain, storing water during drought, and providing crucial sanctuaries and habitats for wildlife.

As part of our Bay Course Project, Royal Sydney transformed our former irrigation dam into a Paperbark Wetland – the first of its kind in the local area. With the addition of more than 200 paperbark trees, it has provided a thriving hotspot for local wildlife, particularly bird species.

Our Paperbark Wetland is now home to an abundance of birdlife, from Australian Brush Turkeys, White Ibises and Dusky Moorhens, to various species of native ducks and cormorants.
